As January winds down, we’re looking toward February – Heart Health Month – and planning a social media campaign that will bring awareness to a disease that is still sadly misunderstood.
All month long in February, you can expect to see posts on our club Facebook page related to heart disease, which is the top killer of women in the U.S. When you do, we hope you’ll take time to ‘Like’ and ‘Share.’ Because heart disease, and specifically heart attacks, present differently in women than they do in men, women are more likely to brush off their symptoms or to assume they are caused by something else.

‘Go Red for Women’
On February 1, 2019, members of the GFWC Grundy Woman’s Club, as well as our federation sisters in the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and GFWC Virginia, will take part in the American Heart Association’s ‘Go Red for Women’ campaign.
It might not seem like much to throw on a red shirt, dress or ribbon for the day, but a collective group of individuals all sporting the same color gets people talking. And talking is what we want. We want more women talking about their survival stories, finding out about their heart disease risks, and taking steps to reduce their chances of becoming another silent statistic.
